An Expression of Creative Talent

Each year MeAA partners with community organizations to showcase students’ artistic talents.

An Expression of Creative Talent

Embedded in the fabric of teaching and student learning at Maine Arts Academy (MeAA) are almost limitless opportunities for students to develop and express their creative talents through the “Pathways” of Dance, Film, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts. Not only does MeAA enrich students’ knowledge and skills as they pursue their artistic talents but also provide them with venues for demonstrating and sharing with others their personal passion for the visual and performing arts.

Each year MeAA partners with community organizations to showcase students’ artistic talents via an assortment of events which demonstrate all of MeAA’s “Pathways.” These partners and events include:

  • Dance – Colby College, Portland Ballet (Advanced Dance Class), Downtown Augusta (Tree Lighting), University of Maine Augusta (Fall Dance Performance)

  • Photography-The Department of Education awarded MeAA an Extended Year Outdoor Learning Grant that enabled us to have a mountain biking and photography program with the culmination of a photography art show.

  • Music - Our Music department performed twice last year at the University of Maine at Augusta and has also performed in the community many times. Our Blues Ensemble performed at the art walk in the Spring of 2024 in collaboration with Healthy Communities of the Capitol Area. Maine Arts Academy also collaborated with Healthy Communities of the Capital Area and  Johnson Hall in Gardiner for two summer open mic opportunities. This was open to all Youth in Maine and encouraged music to be an outlet.

  • Theater –  Maine Arts Academy recently performed at the University of Maine Augusta putting on a production of “She kills Monsters”, by Qui Nguyen. This play is a comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games. High school senior Agnes discovers her sister's Dungeons and Dragons game and is transported into a virtual adventure of demons, ogres, and self-discovery.

  • Visual Arts – Augusta Art Shows and Art Walks, Indigo Art Alliance, The Blanchard Gallery, Hallowell Board of Trade (‘My name is”), Cushnoc Brewing Co. (Winter Windows), Maine College of Art and Design (Student Awards), Augusta Colonial Theater (Trick or Treat on Water Street), The Maine House (8x10x$80), Monkitree Gallery (8x10x$80)

MeAA not only provides students with the knowledge and skills to live personally fulfilling lives, but to share and demonstrate their creative talents with others. As Henry David Thoreau once remarked,  “The great end in life is not knowledge but action.”  MeAA lives up to this quote by ensuring that students take action to express their learning and talents.
