Baxter Academy

Baxter Academy is Maine’s only tuition-free public charter high school dedicated to STEM. We have a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum promoting student ownership of learning through curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. Baxter Academy students study complex, real-world problems.  Students use and build technological tools in a collaborative environment with scientists, engineers, artists, musicians, writers, architects and many other professionals. Our programming also provides access to transferable college credits at no cost to our students.

How is Baxter different:

• Flex Friday – 20% of our student’s time is spent on independent projects. They invest in community with relevant and rigorous projects with the guidance of teachers and wisdom of experts.

• Our results – Students consistently show academic excellence across subject matter.

• Our access – Students engage with national and international programs addressing design, science, and engineering challenges.

We are also at an exciting time of growth.

In 2026, Baxter Academy is launching Maine’s first hybrid high school program featuring Maine education standards Monday-Thursday, and Friday’s on-site working collaboratively on hands-on projects.  These innovative projects are focused on innovation and community needs.

In 2027, Baxter will be opening the Center for Innovation and Technology. This unique space includes labs for marine, engineering, cyber security, and community gathering. It is the only space of its kind available to public school students.
